Obama Commits To Nuclear Energy, We Talk To Southern Company CEO
Big news today for the nuclear energy industry: President Obama and his Energy Department have offered the first conditional federal loan guarantee for new nuclear plant construction to Southern Company. The money will go to two advanced nuclear reactors at the Plant Vogtle power station in Georgia, where the company already owns and operates two nuclear units. This is the first commitment to construction of the U.S.'s nuclear power units in more than 30 years.
