Wisconsin Enacts More Clean Air Regulations

Under fire by the Sierra Club and others, the state of Wisconsin says it will take action to install more pollution controls, cut down on coal use or even possibly shut down five coal plants.

The state's Department of Administration announced the plants in question are at Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison and UW campuses in Eau Claire, La Crosse, Oshkosh and River Falls.

This comes as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources notified the DOA that five plants were not in compliance with Clean Air Act regulations and five others need further review.

Governor Jim Doyle's office said he will "fix this problem... and do it quickly."
