Natural Gas Vital to Climate Change Prevention
In order to successfully begin reducing carbon dioxide emissions around the world, it will be vital to produce large quantities of reliable back ups, such as natural gas.
That's according to a new study released by the International Gas Union whose members account for about 95 percent of global natural gas output.
Worldwide natural gas production will need to rise 70 percent in order to reach a carbon emissions peak by 2015, after which the risk of even more damaging climate change rises.
The IGU estimates world gas demand will rise to 4.8 trillion cubic meters per year by 2030 from 2.8 trillion cubic meters today. The report calls for more low-carbon fuels, such as natural gas, to replace coal and to provide reliable back-ups for renewable energy sources such as wind and solar that depend on the weather.
