Climate Conversations to Continue in April

Copenhagen Climate Conference

United Nations climate negotiators will try to pick up the pieces from Copenhagen in April.

The December conference ended without consensus, with six nations blocking adoption of the Copenhagen Accord negotiated by major world leaders.

Danish officials, who now chair the U.N. process, say climate negotiators will meet April 9-11 in Bonn, Germany, to map out the 2010 work program and to decide how a treaty process can go forward.

That adds to the two previously scheduled meetings -- a June meeting in Bonn and a December meeting in Cancun, Mexico.

But the disarray of the Copenhagen process has led even supporters of a U.N. treaty to question whether the giant meetings, which require unanimous agreement for any measure, can marshall world governments to confront climate change.
